PlayStation 5 restocks coming in soon
Update: The PS5 dropped at John Lewis and JD Williams today, but all stock is now sold out. Read on for what’s coming up next.
The PS5 console was released more than six months ago, but if you’re a gamer you’ll know how hard it has been to get your hands on the latest device.
Restock issues have been plaguing Sony since the reveal, and despite stores reopening in the UK as lockdown measures lift, it’s virtually impossible to secure a console in-store.
It has become so difficult for people to get their hands on a PS5 that it’s spawned a whole Twitter community of stock trackers, as well as a 24,500-strong community of Redditors all trying to nab the console before it sells out again.
But, it’s not all bad news, as the restock landscape has started to improve in recent weeks. We enjoyed some of the best PS5 drops ever last month, as every major retailer released consoles, including a 20,000-strong drop from Game. June is shaping up to be similar, as we saw two big restocks at Very and Game yesterday, with AO, Smyths Toys, Asda and ShopTo rumoured to follow. John Lewis also released a drop this morning that lasted just four minutes.
Owing to the high demand, we’re here to help you get your hands on the coveted Playstation by keeping an eye on all major retailers, as well as offering the latest details on any rumoured releases. Follow live so you don’t miss out.
You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

PS5 bundle in stock now at JD Williams
Sometimes drops appear in unexpected places – enter JD Williams, who just dropped a bundle (£569.99, Jdwilliams.com) including a PS5 console, two games (Cyberpunk and Spider-Man) and a twin docking station, plus dual play controllers and a charging cable, of course.
Stock is limited to one per customer, but the store says they’re aiming for a turnaround of three working days, which means yours could arrive on your doorstep at the beginning of next week. There’s no indication of how many consoles are available, so move quickly.

The Nintendo Switch is tons easier to get than the PS5
If all the stock issues associated with Sony’s latest console has got you feeling a little, well, over it, perhaps consider a Nintendo Switch (£279.99, Argos.co.uk) as a viable alternative.
Facing fierce competition in our review of the best gaming consoles, our writer noted that “Nintendo has never been afraid of taking risks with its console designs, and the Switch console, first released in 2017, is a perfect example of them getting it just right.”
As “a home console that can be detached from a TV dock and used as a portable device,” it’s “well-suited to couch multiplayer, a mode that is facilitated by the novel controller design, which allows each controller to separate into two parts, each functioning independently,” they added.

An update on Game PS5 bundles
Game has just updated its PS5 bundles page with new release dates, and they’re a lot sooner than we were expecting. The release date now says 25 June. The retailer always drops consoles roughly a week and a half before the scheduled release date, meaning we could see the PS5 bundles go live between 15 June and 17 June.
We haven’t noticed any changes in the variety of bundles – there’s no Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart bundle, sadly – but feel free to look for yourself ahead of the next Game drop. The PS5 bundles are on this page.

What PS5 bundles are available at Scan?
The last time Scan had a PS5 restock was on 28 May. The retailer sells a few decent PS5 bundles that you can peruse even though the console is out of stock at the moment.
You can get a PlayStation 5 disc edition bundle with an extra dualsense controller, a copy of Sackboy and Spider-Man: Miles Morales and an additional 1TB external SSD. If you don’t want the SSD, you can opt for a bundle with Demon’s Souls instead. And if you want something cheaper, you can go for a bundle with a copy of Sackboy and an extra dualsense controller. There aren’t any prices listed on the site at the moment, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we see them.

PS5 shipments have arrived at Asda and ShopTo
For those still waiting on PS5 drops at Asda and ShopTo, word on the streets in the land of stock trackers suggest that the retailers have only just received shipments. According to the @PS5Instant Twitter account, Asda received around 4,000 disc edition PS5 consoles.
The account predicts the consoles will drop on both retailers’ websites sometime between today and 17 June, with Asda dropping between 8am and 12pm and ShopTo dropping between 9am and 1pm. We’ll let you know if we get any more concrete drop dates.

Battlefield 2042 PS5 release date
EA has just announced a release date for Battlefield 2042 and the game is coming just in time for Christmas. It’s scheduled for release on 22 October, and will be coming to the PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and the PC.
The game costs £59.99 on previous generation consoles, and £10 more on the PS5 at £69.99. But if you want the game a week earlier, you can pay £89.99 for the Gold edition and £109.99 for the Ultimate edition. The Gold edition contains a next-gen bundle and a Year 1 pass. The Ultimate edition includes the Year 1 pass, a next-gen bundle, a Midnight Ultimate Bundle DLC, a digital art book and a digital soundtrack. Whether you think that’s worth paying extra for, we’ll leave up to you!

When will there be an Asda PS5 restock?
The last time Asda had a PS5 restock was at 8:30am on 25 May. The drop lasted just 20 minutes. Twitter stock trackers are predicting that the next drop could take place today. We’ll keep our eyes out and let you know if the drop materialises. There’s an outside chance that Scan and Studio could have a restock today as well.
For any future drops at Asda, our top tip is to add the PS5 to your wish list and then add it to your basket. The site hasn’t proven to be the most reliable in terms of stock drops, so you want to optimise the process and increase your chances of being able to checkout.

‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ PS5 rumoured to release tomorrow
A PS5 upgrade to the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is rumoured to release tomorrow, according to a report from The Gamer. UK retailersreportedly received the physical next-gen upgrade yesterday.
You won’t need to go out and rush to buy it if you’ve got the PS4 version of the game since it’s backwards compatible. The report says that the PS4 game will get a free next-gen PS5 upgrade, like many other games. But for those of you who are new to PlayStation, it’s nice to know you’ll be able to get a physical PS5 copy.

What PS5 stock drops can we expect today and tomorrow?
So what’s coming next? It feels like we’ve been saying this for weeks now, but AO is still rumoured to drop sometime this week – today to be exact. ShopTo is also rumoured to have a drop today, while Smyths Toys is rumoured to have a drop sometime between today and Sunday.
Just a reminder that these drop date are all unconfirmed and are rumours at best. Most stock trackers use previous drops to work out a drop pattern, while others have insiders at specific retailers. Finding patterns is becoming trickier to do.
John Lewis, for example, hasn’t dropped on a Thursday since February. The retailer usually drops on a Tuesday, so it took a number of trackers by surprise.

A new day of PS5 stock tracking
We had a drop at John Lewis this morning at 7:03am. It was rumoured to contain just 2,000 PS5 consoles, which is probably why the consoles sold out within just four minutes. John Lewis’s drops are usually the tiniest out of all the major retailers, and they always happen at 7am, but some people still found success. We’ll keep you updated with any more drops.
